Ponchos Worldwide
The poncho is a simple garment which can also be made from an impermeable material, being designed to keep the body warm or to protect it from the rain. Featuring an opening for the head and sometimes for the arms, ponchos are essentially large singular sheets of fabric. There are also models with hoods attached, which are specially designed for rainy weather.
Nowadays, ponchos are designed as fashion accessories, keeping the traditional shape but being made from different materials. Many people opt for this type of clothing because they are very comfortable and easy to wear. They are also easy to match with almost any outfit. They are often made out of wool or yarn; knitted or crocheted. The models featuring festive designs or colors are perfect for special events, as well. Commonly associated with South America, ponchos have spread worldwide, and are no longer traditional clothing, but a standard in military field uniforms, or raincoats for wandering and biking.
Ponchos have also been given many names depending on the region, such as Chamanto in central Chile, Jorongo in Mexico, Kotze in Austria, and many others. But the most familiar name given to this clothing is still "poncho." It is great how ponchos can be adapted to casual street wear, as they can be thrown over a pair of jeans for a chic, casual look. Providing great protection on cold or rainy weather, this type of clothing comes with a feeling of comfort and represents a new level in recent fashion. There are now many different stores where fashion-lovers can buy a poncho from. The prices are accessible and the models are practically endless. Being adaptable to all kinds of fashions, it can be very advantageous to buy a poncho.
