The question on the lips of every pashmina and cashmere enthusiast is whether it is better to buy an accessory made of pure pashmina or one that has silk blended in it. The truth is that this is a rather personal choice and there are very few differences between them that you should take into account. First of all, it is obvious that the mixture of silk and pashmina will give your accessory a lustrous look, regardless if it is a scarf, a wrap or a shawl. In blends, the addition of silk is generally in a proportion of 30 percent; therefore, the sheen in pashmina accessories is mostly because of it, but also because blends tend to have a tighter weave.
Another thing that you should take into account is that pashmina is a type of the finest cashmere available, so an accessory that is made entirely from it is going to be much warmer then any blends. The difference in warms is related to the proportion of silk added in the blend; this is usually marked on the label of the accessory.
Ply is another factor that you need to consider when it comes to the warmth of your accessory. Due to the fact that pashmina has very light fibers, even an item with three ply is of lightweight, whereas this does not apply to silk blends.
The texture of a pure pashmina accessory is looser, to prevent the shedding and pilling of the material; this makes your accessory a little fluffier and gives it the luxurious feeling specific only to cashmere.
