General Information About Pashmina
Nowadays, the word pashmina is used for referring to any shawl, wrap, stole or scarf. But actually, pashmina is a type of material-wool- obtained from the inner coat of hair found at a specific type of goats that live at high altitudes in Himalayan Mountains. For thousand of years people have used the fleece from this type of goats to make stylish accessories like shawls, wraps or scarves. These types of shawls are being produced in Kashmir and Nepal for thousand of years under different names. In Kashmir they were called "Kashmiri wool shawls" and in Nepal "pashmina", which became a more popular term in the 1990s. Shawls are made either from pashmina wool, or from pashmina blended with silk, in different ratios. The most common type contains 30% silk and 70 % pashmina. A scarf, shawl or wrap made from this type of material can be adapted to any style. It's not so difficult to take care of a pashmina, and if you properly do this you can make use of it for many years. If you don't take it to the dry-cleaning, which is recommended to do, then wash it in cold water with a baby shampoo which it's gentle with the material. Pay attention to the tassels because they can unwind and also, avoid wring dry. You can iron your pashmina but it would be better to put a piece of paper or material between it and the iron. Keep it in a place safe from moisture, light or damaging insects. It is said that if you wear once a pashmina you will do it again. It is a great accessory that goes with any clothing, even if you use it to dress up your attire or you want to emphasize your formal outfit.
